(I'm putting this on all up to part 16) To defend Celestia and her actions, I've been meaning to defend her on this; As a Princess/Older sibling, tough decisions have to be made "yes" Tia should show a little more compassion but matters forced her curtness and it WAS called for.
Excellent comic. I particular love your potrayal of the princesses, they just seem like real human/pony beings and not just paper cutouts. Most of the time Celestia is just potrayed as an archetype of an impeccaple, almost Mary-Sue-ish ruler, who thinks she can make the best choices for everyone else, but can't be doubted, because everyone who doesn't argee with her and won't conform must clearly be evil and must be eliminated. While Luna on the other hand just seems to go along with things. Like all these feelings of envy and pain just vanished the moment the elements of harmony hit her and after all we saw these feelings might be entirely justified. The worst part is that the show never got into detail about Luna's fall into darkness and if she really was to blame. Maybe she was just an victim of the circumstances and her punishment was unreasonably cruel, maybe she just wanted to rule Equstria differently, or maybe I'm just reading to much into thinks, but the eternal night thing just seems so nonsensical. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the next page.
My friend you are not reading/thinking to much into this story. In fact that's what I wish more people would do and thank you for the compliment because that is exactly what I'm aiming to do, to give these seemingly perfect princesses some actual depth in their characters There are plenty of people who disagree with the way I portray Luna but you know what? The show doesn't provide much to base her character off of in the first place so why not
Hm, you're skilled at drawing but I that issue with the story, especially your portray of Luna. She seems weak, in every sense of the word, both magically, politicaly and in spirit and mind. I just don't find that beliveable. For example, she seems to have no real power or will, her own servants seem to be able to command them and even impose restrictions on her freedom. Luna is supposed to be Celestia's equal. Not just princess in name. Secondly, if Luna was forbidden to go out into Canterlot by her sister how would they keep her from doing it? Luna is a goddess with equal or near equal power to Celestia and from what we've seen, her own personal guards. If she wants to do something there is precious little anypony other than her sister might do about it. Third, she seems like a crybaby. From what little we've seen of Luna in season 2 it does not reflect her character very well.
Now, all that might be just me being a Luna fanboy, but that's my two cents anyway.
First of all I don't believe that I have portrayed either her magical capabilities or her politcal influence within Canterlot/Equestria so far. So it's a bit early for you to make a judgement about that. As for the weakness in spirit and mind, have you been reading the past pages discusssing the fact that after 1000 years of complete isolation on a rock in space that she was utterly rejected by the society she had been looking forward to re-entering after so long. This is the reason for the weakness in spirit. Anyone would be heartbroken if this was happening to them. The reason that Luna is showing it so much now is because Celestia is the last existing connection that she believes that she has. She does love her. After all it is her older sister here.
The reason that her servants "seem to be able to command them and even impose restrictions on her freedom." is because what Reginald/the maids/Caroline and Pierson have been doing to her since page 1 is not their choice really. For example, the reason Reginald why is so forceful in the way that he speaks to Luna and gets her into the dining hall is because Celestia commanded that Luna be present at breakfast. Reginald takes great pride in serving under Princess Celestia. Luna's behavior got in the way of Reginald completing this task. Thus his actions and attitude towards her. (You'll be seeing Reginald and Celestia's relationship and history with eachother within the next few pages.) The maids were just doing what they were told to do by Princess Celestia as were Pierson and Caroline.
I agree that Luna should be viewed as an equal to Celestia, after all she does raise the moon. However, after everything that Luna's done (both the Nightmare Moon situation and the fan-made incidents presented in this comic) Celestia has less respect for Luna for obvious reasons. Everything that Celestia is doing to Luna is what she sees as the "appropriote" response after everything that Luna has done. Celestia believes that she is helping Luna.
As for the "Not just princess in name" after being gone for 1000 years she's definitely not going to have the same influence and power she did at the time she was banished.
"Luna is a goddess with equal or near equal power to Celestia and from what we've seen" Yes, she is. But after 1000 years and the fact that Luna is the younger sister it is my opinion that Celestia is by nature stronger than Luna.
She isn't a "crybaby" its simply the fact that her spirit has been broken. After going through so much and now being able to vent everything that she has had bottled up for 1000 years and what has escalated in the past months is the reason why she's crying so much. Again this is just my opinion.
When i started this comic I resolved that I wanted to create and entirely new aspect of Luna's personality. And that's what I hope to do. Sorry that she doesn't meet your standards.
I personally believe that her magic would not have just "stored" itself inside of her. It wouldn't have just slowly built up over 1000 years. In my mind I guess the closest thing you could compare it to is a muscle. Think about if you didn't move a certain muscle in your body for years (in Luna's case, hundreds of years) it wouldn't store up energy and become stronger. It would become weak and un-exercised. You'd have trouble moving it by even the slightest. As for why she was still powerful when she returned as Nightmare Moon, I would say that that is because all that power is not originally hers. It's whatever power that she was possessed with when she became Nightmare, (which was then dispelled from her when the Mane 6 defeated her. Thus the scene where she transformed from the huge intimidating mare into the small, cute Luna we all know and love.
Maybe, but consider: If unicorn/alicorn bodies create the energy, then would they not have a natural limit to how much they can store? It's never implied that magic is stored. It stops being made after reserves are filled is what I guess. If magic ponies draw upon magic from another place/continuum, then they would stop drawing more into themselves. The thing is, energy doesn't come from nowhere. It is either converted from matter, or drawn from somewhere else, and storage isn't infinite either.
you bitch thats just cold that night was the frist time she has had any contact with anyone else and you say that Discord is looking at you in shame if she turns to nightmare moon again its your fault.... again and i doubt this time you will get your sister back.
